Progress in Modification of Poly(lactic acid) by Citrate Ester and Epoxy Soybean Oil Plasticizer

Abstract：Research progress on biodegradable citrate ester plasticizer and vegetable oil based epoxidized soybean oil (ESO) plasticizer toughened poly(lactic acid) (PLA) in nearly ten years at home and abroad were reviewed. The latest research developments of acetyl tributyl citrate (ATBC) and ESO toughened PLA were emphasized. The research contents of the two kinds of plasticizers modified PLA in mechanical properties, thermal resistance, crystalline behaviors, processing performance and so on were mainly summarized. At last, the merits and demerits of the two kinds of plasticizers toughened PLA were compared, furthermore, a development prospect for citrate ester and ESO plasticizers toughened PLA was drew.
