Effect of Twin Screw Combination on Properties of Reinforced Halogen-Free Flame Retardant PBT

Abstract：Three screw combinations were used, the characteristics of them were high conveying and high shearing combination (1#), low conveying and high shearing combination (2#), large lead and medium shearing combination (3#) respectively, the glass fiber reinforced halogen-free flame retardant polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) materials were prepared by the three screw combinations at three different extrusion temperature combinations, and the tensile strength, bending strength, notched impact strength and flame retardant properties of the materials were tested to obtain the best temperature combination. Then, the properties of PBT prepared by the three screw combinations were tested by changing the screw rotation speed of the main engine at the best temperature combination, so as to obtain the best screw rotation speed and the best screw combination. The results show that, under the same conditions, the properties of PBT made by the screw combination of 1# are better than that made by the other two screw combinations. The properties of PBT prepared by the three screw combinations are better at the moderate temperature combination of the second group (170-240℃) and the high screw rotating speed (375 r/min). Compared with the temperature and screw rotating speed, the effects of the screw combination on the properties of PBT is more obvious.
